FLORA & Werkbund: The Heilmanns at the Gautor-Apotheke in Mainz
A monument of Mainz pharmacy history and the place where two important pharmacists and collectors of plant books worked – the Heilmanns.
The shop windows of the pharmacy at the Gautor always displayed objects from all over the world, some of them curious, all of them connected in the broadest sense with the preparation of remedies of every kind. The last two proprietors of the pharmacy were father Karl Eugen (1886-1971) and son Peter (1933-2020) Heilmann, who, alongside their dedicated work as pharmacists, collected these objects on their travels and also studied herbals (Kräuterbücher) of the 15th to 17th centuries and the nature self-printing process in depth. A unique opportunity to see the inside of the pharmacy once more.
Programme:
Dr. Eric Martin, proprietor of the Hubertus-Apotheke in Marktheidenfeld, will give a talk on the pharmacist's profession, on the Gautor-Apotheke and on the collecting passion of its last two proprietors.
After the talk we warmly invite you to a glass of wine and some herb pastries.
The evening is at the same time the Tag der Heilpflanze 2026 (Medicinal Plant Day).
As places in the pharmacy are limited, we ask you to register with the Deutscher Werkbund Rheinland-Pfalz.
